Newcastle’s event calendar mixes arena concerts, comedy tours and sport-adjacent security work. Licensed supervisors handle search-and-screen, licensed-area control and crowd management on the busiest nights — a different skill set and pay band from Sodexo’s matchday catering teams at St James’ Park.
What the role involves
- Ticket, pass and accreditation checks at entry points.
- Patrols, queue management and de-escalation.
- Supporting safe egress and emergency procedures.
- Enforcing venue policies under the site licence.
Who usually gets hired
- Valid in-date SIA Door Supervisor licence and right to work in the UK.
- 18+; local to Newcastle — the advert excludes distant applicants.
- Video interview and BS7858 screening before start.
- Arena or stadium security experience helps but Showsec trains new licence holders.
Pay and contract
- £15.80–£18.44/hour inclusive of indicative holiday pay.
- Casual shifts via MyShowsec; higher band applies on selected venue types.
- Progression path: steward → door supervisor → event supervisor → head of security.
Stadium Jobs tip
Arena work complements rather than replaces St James’ Park matchday shifts — many supervisors hold both Showsec arena banks and separate catering casual contracts. For unlicensed football stewarding at the ground itself, filter Showsec for “Event Safety Steward” when those banks reopen.
